History of Kybella
Technically, Kybella is associated with Mesotherapy because its method uses chemical fat-dissolving. Mesotherapy dates back to the 1950s in France. In the 1960s, a compound called phosphatidylcholine was used to break up fat to assist with medical concerns.
Fast forward to the 1980s, and researchers began to explore fat-dissolving chemicals in cosmetic treatments. Subsequently, off-label use of “PC/DA” (a combination of phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholic acid) increased during the bodybuilding boom of the ’80s.

How much does Kybella cost?
The total cost is dependent on the number of vials needed to reach your desired results. In addition, the experience and location of your chosen practitioner can affect the cost. However, the cost of each vial is between $600-$800 with about 2 or 3 vials per treatment being needed to achieve the results you desire.
How many Kybella treatments will I need?
While not a popular answer, the number of treatments needed range from a low of 2 to a high of 6. Some patients may need more than 6, but that is very rare. These treatments should be at least a month apart.
How long is the recovery time with Kybella?
This procedure is minimally invasive and quick making recovery pretty much unneeded. It’s expected that driving home and doing other normal activities immediately after is just fine to do. However, any side effects experienced may affect that feeling. For this reason, it’s recommended to ice the treated area and avoid exercise until the side effects diminish.
How quickly will I see results from Kybella?
Since two treatments is the minimum number of treatments, you can expect to wait for 5-6 weeks to begin seeing results. Keep in mind that the destroyed fat cells still need to be eliminated from the body as they do not magically disappear. If more treatments are needed, you can expect a longer wait time to start seeing results. Full results will be noticed about three months later.
How long will my Kybella results last?
The results are permanent thanks to the fat cells being destroyed. Once destroyed, they can’t return. However, the remaining fat cells can expand so if you gain weight, this will obscure the results you gained.
Are there other similar options to Kybella?
There is only one other treatment option for the double chin that is as minimally invasive. That option is CoolMini, which uses Cryo-lipolysis to freeze away the fat cells. Other than CoolMini, you are looking at Chin liposuction as a treatment option primarily. This is a minimally invasive surgical procedure. It removes more fat directly, but is more invasive and costly than the non-surgical options.
